Tax Exempt procedures for various retailers:

  1. Amazon – submit information online to make whole account tax exempt. Annoyingly the default is to have the items be exempted so when you make a personal purchase you have to “un-exempt” each item.
  2. Costco - can load onto account but still have to fill out and sign form each time. Can be done at regular register but cannot be done at the food counter – you will have to step over to the managers’ counter and they will complete the transaction and then you can bring your receipt back to the food counter.  I do not think it transfers to online purchases but will try to check.
  3. Dollar tree – in person - bring a copy of the form and will manually enter each time. I believe you make a purchase online and then you can submit the documentation afterward and they will remove tax
  4. Hobby lobby - can fill out fresh form each time (Hobby Lobby has their own form) or can email tax exempt form and exemption verification letter to corporate and they will send a tax exempt card to use every time.
  5. Ikea – bring copy of form or fill out at register, checker will manually enter
  6. Lowe’s - loaded already into system, use church phone number to search
  7. Michael’s - can fill out their form each time or add to phone number and they can look it up.
  8. Party city - can bring copy of the form or can lookup account
  9. Sam’s club - load onto card at customer service. Select tax or tax exempt at beginning of each transaction. Also works for online purchases.
  10. Target - fill out form online to connect to phone number (can also do each transaction manually at register but can add to phone number for ease)
  11. Target.com – must submit information ahead of time to make your account tax exempt. Takes a little time to process.
  12. Walmart - need to submit form at customer service to receive card. Card will be submitted at the beginning of every transaction with actual checker.  New change is that tax exempt number can be entered at self checkout (option at top right of checkout screen)
  13. Walmart.com – must submit information ahead of time to make your account tax exempt.  Takes a little time to process.
